Renault has been testing their upcoming offering to the extremes. The testing mule is of none other than their upcoming MPV – Renault Triber. And a video of the same has been released through Renault India’s social media handles. The official teaser talks about how tough the Triber is. We want to believe Renault on the toughness but in the video, the Triber is running on flat roads only. They say it has been tested for extreme India conditions and extreme temperatures. We don’t yet know about the performance but we do expect the air-cooling system to be impeccable.
The Renault Triber is going to make its global debut on June 19. And here’s everything that we know about the upcoming MPV. Renault counts on the space that the Triber offers. It can be seen, that the Triber is tall that means more room inside. The auto-maker does talk about the interior space of the Triber as Super Spacious. One more interesting thing, they also talk about the MPV being Ultra Modular. This means, that the Triber may feature a flexible seating configuration inside.
The Triber MPV will be different from the Lodgy package as Renault is pushing efforts for the MPV to be on the economic side. The Lodgy is priced north-wards of INR 8 Lakhs. The Triber will sit between the Duster and the Kwid, and will aggressively price the Triber and we expect it to be priced below INR 6 Lakhs.
The Triber is based on a modified platform that the Kwid is built on. There are a lot of bits that the MPV will share with its younger hatchback sibling. Even the engine powering the Triber will be sourced from the Kwid. The same three-cylinder 1 L engine will be retuned to deliver additional horsepower in order to meet a decent power to weight ratio. This motor will come with a 5-speed transmission. However, Renault plans to bring an AMT version in future. Also, a turbocharged version of the engine will be considered for upcoming variants.
Recently, there was new that Maruti Suzuki is also working on a 7 seater variant of the Wagon R. We think, the Triber will lock horns with the new Wagon R 7-seater once launched.
