MG Hector Hybrid SUV, India’s first internet car unveiled

Morris Garages (MG) Motor has finally entered the Indian automobile scene with their all-new offering. They got the Hector Hybrid SUV out of the wraps and boy it’s good. Positioned as India’s first internet car, the Hector SUV gets more than 50 connectivity features. The company promises a power-packed performance with exclusive features. The Hector SUV will be up for pre-orders from next month. MG Motor India has a network of 120 outlets in India across 50 cities. They aim to double the numbers by the end of this year.

The Hector features MG’s signature design cues. Various sections of Hector’s interiors are inspired by modern dance forms. Speaking of the connectivity tech, the Hector get the i-SMART technology with the biggest HD touchscreen in its segment at 10.4 inches. The Hector will also be the first car with a sophisticated 48-volt mild-hybrid architecture in its segment. With this, MG Motor becomes the first mainstream carmaker in India to bring 48V technology to the mass market segment.

The Hector Hybrid SUV will be available in both petrol and diesel engines.

The petrol duties will be taken care by a 1.5-litre turbocharged engine tuned to deliver 143 PS power and max torque of 250 Nm. The petrol variant will be available with manual as well as automatic transmission. Speaking of diesel, the Hector will get a 2.0-litre diesel engine that will make 170 PS power and 350 Nm torque. The company claims that the diesel variant will deliver best-in-class fuel efficiency. The 6-speed DCT automatic transmission has been tested extensively under extreme climatic conditions globally for more than 2.6 million km.

A select petrol manual trims will come with a 48V mild hybrid technology. This tech is promised to deliver best-in-class fuel efficiency in the segment. The 48 Volt lithium-ion battery is said to be four times more capable than the current offerings in the Indian mass market segment. With three key functions – Engine Auto Start-Stop, Regenerative Braking and E-Boost – the combination reduces emissions by up to 12%.  The battery helps store energy and provide extra torque assistance of up to 20 Nm when required.

The launch of the SUV will be in the month of June and we can’t wait. The MG Motors Hector looks promising and we expect it to create a ripple in its segment.
