Mahindra Thar finally got launched in the Indian market after being delayed due to the pandemic. It was officially launched in August and went on sale in India from Friday. You can book the new Thar at the company dealerships and website.
The 2nd Gen Mahindra Thar is carrying forward the legacy from its predecessor which was introduced almost 10 years ago. Mahindra claims that the new Thar 2020 is a more evolved version that caters to a larger set of customers, all thanks to the road-friendly dynamics & comfort-oriented design it offers.
Talking about the price, Mahindra Thar 2020 launched in the Indian market at a starting price of Rs 9.80 lakh (ex-showroom) and goes up to Rs 13.5 lakh (ex-showroom).

Features of Mahindra Thar 2020
Engine & Performance
The new SUV has two engine options, a 2.0-litre ‘mStallion’ petrol engine and a 2.2-litre mHawk unit.
The mStallion unit produces 152hp power and 320Nm of peak torque and comes paired with a standard 6-speed manual gearbox and an optional 6-speed automatic transmission as well.
The other engine option churns out 132hp power and 300Nm of peak torque. This engine is paired with a standard 6-speed manual gearbox and also features an optional 6-speed torque converter automatic unit.
Cabin Features
The new Thar 2020 comes loaded with really good cabin features like:
- a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system,
- a colour multi-info display,
- roof-mounted weather-resistant speakers,
- steering-mounted controls, cruise control and much more
Desirability
According to Mahindra, the Thar 2020 comes with improved desirability factor with a significantly upgraded cabin. The cabin features:
- new comfort and convenience features,
- improved NVH levels, and
- remapped seat structure for those who love front-facing seats instead of bench setup
Chassis & Suspension
Mahindra has upgraded the chassis to a completely new ladder-frame chassis. They did it to improve the overall driving dynamics of the SUV without compromising with its off-road capabilities.
Talking about its suspension, it is equipped with a multi-link setup, which according to claims has lent the SUV a more road-friendly stance.

Exterior Features
The new Thar received muscular looks at the exterior, thanks to its flared up wheel arches, classic circular headlamps and flat hood. Apart from this the rear end of the SUV gets the traditional brick-style tail lights with modern LED avatar.
Mahindra has featured the new SUV in both soft-top as well as hard-top variants. The customers can also choose from a number of exterior colours like:
